1:04 Welcome to the secret world of glassblowing. My name is Scott Rogers. I'll be your host for this video.
1:12 You may not know it, but glass has been a big secret for a lot of years and
1:17 people don't
1:18 really want to let the secret out, but now is your chance to observe it
1:23 yourself.
1:32 A lot of people don't realize that glass is made from sand.
1:38 Blowing glass isn't for everybody.
1:40 It's not the easiest thing to do.
1:43 There's a lot of heat involved and everybody that blows glass gets
1:48 burnt.
2:04 I'm Mufasa from [unclear] Productions.
2:07 Today we're going to do a demonstration on your basic spoon.
2:10 What we do here is you just get it really hot and we take our solid rod and
2:15 we mix it
2:16 and we kind of pull it out of the fire, twisting it and spinning both
2:21 pieces.
2:22 That way it breaks away evenly.
2:24 So you want to bring it in slower.
2:25 because the cold and hot will just slam against each other and make your
2:31 cracks and
2:33 explosions on your piece. So another thing is if you're working with any
2:37 kind of metals
2:38 by fuming the glass, you want to have very good ventilation.
2:41 I'm going to do a color [unclear]. Trailing color on and raking it with clear.
2:47 So the first thing is open up and end so you can blow into it.
2:52 Heat it up a little bit so that you don't cut your mouth because the glass
2:55 is sharp.
2:58 And warm it up a little bit so that it will accept the silver that you will
3:02 spray on it.
