Boro Mastery brings the original Humboldt Films glassworking series online, with eight instructional videos and a free library of borosilicate glassblowing guides.

The original series

The Secrets series began in 2000 as Humboldt Films, recorded in working glass studios in Humboldt County, California. The lessons preserve the artists’ original explanations and workshop audio while demonstrating borosilicate glass at the torch.

The current library covers glass pipes, advanced glassblowing, Sherlocks, water pipes, jars and wine goblets: about nine hours across eight videos. The free previews let you see the teaching style and original recording before you choose a lesson.

Artists in the lessons

Different artists demonstrate their specialties across the original series. Each course page describes the subject and credits an artist where the recording has been verified.

Mufasa · Advanced Glassblowing

Mufasa demonstrates inside-out glass, side-car bubblers and downstem sinking in Glass Pipes Volume 2.

Brian · Sherlocks Volume 2

Brian from Heaven’s Glass demonstrates a five-piece opposing-spiral Sherlock in Sherlocks Volume 2, from preparation and patterned sections through joining and shaping.

How to use the free guides

The guide library is published by Boro Mastery as a companion to the original lessons. Articles explain concepts, equipment decisions and project planning, with links to related lessons and reference sources.

The original recordings document the equipment and methods used at the time. For current gas-system operation, eye protection, ventilation and kiln settings, follow the relevant manufacturer’s instructions for your setup. Product specifications and local requirements can differ from the examples in a historical lesson.

Guide update dates describe changes to the article. They do not imply that an outside specialist has reviewed or endorsed it. Where an artist is credited on this site, the credit identifies their recorded lesson; it does not imply authorship of the free guides.

Access and support

Individual videos and the two bundles are sold through Gumroad. Your receipt contains the access link for streaming the purchased lessons. Courses are one-time purchases with lifetime streaming access; full-video downloads are disabled.
